phillyclassic5: The East Coast Video Gamers Event -- March 21-22, 2004  Valley Forge Convention Center, Valley Forge, PA

The Phillyclassic5 is the first video game convention I've ever been to.  Hundreds of people from all over gathered to pay respects to the beginnings of what is now a multi billion dollar industry: video gaming.  There were vendors, tournaments, contests, historical displays, and a free arcade.  Cindy Morgan from Tron was there, signing photographs.

Coin-op machines from the seventies and early eighties were set up for free play...all the favorites from when I was a kid.

You don't see Super Pac-Man everyday.  In fact, you really didn't see it much when it was in the arcades, either.

There were game tournaments...Kaboom, Dance Dance Revolution, Soul Caliber, and Joust Pong.  Yes, the future of gaming can be summed up in two words -- Joust and Pong.  My friend Brian was dispatched in the first rounds of both the Soul Caliber and Joust Pong tourneys.  I made it to the final round of the Joust Pong tournament and was then eliminated.

Game Stop had a table there, selling used NES games.  Electronics Boutique was there, as well as Game Crazy.
