Several cars head for pit row at the 2002 MBNA 400 Platinum, including #6 Mark Martin

He may not have won a Nextel Cup championship, but he is still a winner. Mark Martin's hard-working, no-nonsense style have made him a NASCAR fan favorite. He has had four second-place season finishes in his career, but the championship has eluded him. He also has more career victories in the Busch series than any other driver. His 35 career first-place wins in Winston/Nextel make him one of the winningest drivers in the Winston/Nextel Cup today. He also holds more IROC championships (5) then any other driver, and the most wins -- 13.

Mark Martin has been entered into the Lowe's Motor Speedway Court of Legends in following his victory at the 2005 NEXTEL All-Star Challenge on May 21, 2005. His handprint and racing shoeprint will now be added to the likes of Richard Petty, Junior Johnson, and Darell Waltrip at the Court of Legends Walkway leading up to Lowe's Motor Speedway. Congratulations!!

End of an Era  After 19 years of driving for Roush Racing, Mark is giving up the #6. In 2007, he will be driving a limited schedule -- 20 races -- for the MB2 team. He will be helping to develop young drivers for MB2. He will also be running part time in Busch and Craftsman trucks as well in 2007. He has, however not ruled out a full time run in 2008 with Roush. Jack Roush has openly stated that he would love to have Mark back after next year. He was, unfortunately, unable to accomodate Mark's wishes for a part time season in 07. He is driving the 01 U.S. Army Car. Rookie David Ragan is now driving the No. 6 AAA car.

2008 Season: Martin is now in the #8 for DEI, the car once driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (aka 'pretty-boy'). He is once again running part time, sharing the care with rooke Aric Almirola. Once again, the U.S. Army will sponsor his car.

2009:  Mark has gone back to full time status...driving for Hendrick Motorsports in the #5 Kelloggs Chevy.  Unfortunately, his teammates include the pillars of Evil in NASCAR: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson.  And he has announced that he will run FT in 2010 as well!!!
